Human trafficking impacts millions of lives across the globe. This international crime crosses borders and affects everyone from the most rural areas to the world’s largest cities. It doesn’t just happen on the other side of the world. It may exist in your home town. Businesses you patronize may use forced labor. People you know may pay for sex with trafficked sex workers.
There are many myths and misunderstandings about human trafficking, especially among those of us living in the US. We should be appalled that slave labor played a huge role in developing our country in the past. We should be even more upset it’s still going on in the US more than 150 years after the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution outlawed it.
